Nigerians are gradually creating a good image for the country to the outside world. In a way to free the country from over-dependence on expensive imported telecom services, Nigerian scientist, Engr. Michael Friday, has come up with an invention that relieves subscribers of telecommunications services of the need to buy recharge cards.
The global award winner, during a meeting in Abuja with the Director General, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Engr. Danazumi Ibrahim explained the reason behind the invention, “mobile intercom”.
According to him: “The source of Internet we depend on is in foreign hands. Even our telecommunications companies depend on them. If you want to manufacture a mobile phone, until you buy the operating system chips and insert it on your system, it can never access any of these technologies. Instead of going through Wi-Fi, our chip sets can transmit up to 5,000 meters, which is about 5 kilometres or there about. So if we are able to succeed in developing our own chip sets now, you will see that in an estate, you don’t need to pay money to a telecom company to communicate”.
Michael is also a two-time award winner of the most outstanding youth in Nigeria in 2009 and 2011.
